Krista Riihimaki, the founder of White Poppy Media, comes from a diverse background as an educator, writer, scientist, explorer, artist, and filmmaker. She has the unique ability to fluidly navigate between cultures and connect with subjects and clients on a deeper level.

Krista Riihimaki, M. Ed
Krista Riihimaki is an independent documentary filmmaker and artist/educator. Her first documentary short Child, Disrupted took a look at the impact technology overuse has on child development. It won Best Documentary Short at the California Independent Film Festival 2018, Best Short Documentary at the Montecatini International Film Festival 2018 in Italy, and Best of the Festival at the Los Angeles Short Film Festival, among many others.
Before she became an independent artist & filmmaker, Krista had several careers that brought her toward her current path. She was a Montessori guide for children from the toddler, preschool, and middle school in the San Francisco Bay Area. She’s worked as a PADI Divemaster in Hawaii, completed a 3-month long wilderness guide training in Alaska through NOLS, and earned her B.A. through Smith College in Biological Sciences and her M. Ed. from the University of San Diego.
Krista is also a visual artist, specializing in oil and acrylic painting. Her work can be viewed through White Poppy Media. She started White Poppy Media in 2016 with the goal of using her myriad skills for the betterment of society through art and storytelling. Krista was born in Massachusetts and currently resides in San Francisco and the Lake Tahoe region.
